Intern – Combustion Engineer

3-Month Internship · Whitefield, Bengaluru · In-Person · Paid (Performance-Based)

About Hycosys

Hycosys is a deep-tech engineering company developing advanced hydrogen-capable power and propulsion systems, with a core focus on Micro Gas Turbines (MGTs) and high-speed turbomachinery. We follow a strongly engineering-driven approach grounded in first-principles analysis, high-fidelity simulation, and disciplined experimental validation to mature technologies from early concepts to reliable, deployable hardware.

Role Overview

Hycosys is seeking a Combustion Engineering Intern to support the development of advanced lean-burn combustors for Micro Gas Turbine (MGT) applications.

The role offers hands-on exposure to combustion CFD, preliminary design tools, and performance assessment for low-emissions and fuel-flexible combustion systems. You will contribute to early-stage concept screening, emissions prediction, and model development under real product development timelines.

High-performing candidates may be considered for full-time roles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support development of simplified 0-D / 1-D combustion and flow-network models
  • Assist in validation of combustion models for lean-burn and fuel-flexible systems (including hydrogen blends)
  • Perform combustion CFD simulations evaluating pressure loss, stability, emissions (NOx, CO, UHC), and thermal performance
  • Develop automation scripts for CFD post-processing (Python, EnSight, or similar tools)
  • Document model assumptions, boundary conditions, and validation results in structured format

Eligibility

  • Final-year BE/B.Tech or ME/M.Tech (2025 or 2026 pass-out) in Mechanical, Aerospace, Thermal, or related discipline
  • Strong academic foundation in combustion (must-have), thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical fundamentals in reacting flows and thermal systems
  • Familiarity with CFD-based combustion modelling
  • Experience with ANSYS Fluent, STAR-CCM+, or equivalent CFD tools
  • Basic proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, NX, or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with Python or MATLAB for data analysis and automation

What This Internship Offers

  • Direct involvement in real MGT combustor development programs
  • Exposure to lean-burn and low-emissions combustion technologies
  • Hands-on experience with industrial-grade CFD workflows
  • Opportunity for full-time conversion based on performance
