Role Overview
Hycosys is seeking a Preliminary Design Engineering Intern to support early-stage development of advanced Micro Gas Turbine (MGT) systems.
The role focuses on aero-thermal modeling, gas turbine cycle analysis, and concept-level architecture definition. You will contribute to performance modeling, parametric studies, and competitive benchmarking activities shaping engine configuration decisions during concept and preliminary design phases.
High-performing candidates may be considered for full-time roles within the Preliminary Design or Systems Engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Support development and refinement of gas turbine cycle models for MGT architectures
- Assist in aero-thermal modeling of efficiency, pressure ratio, specific power, TIT, and fuel consumption
- Perform parametric studies assessing sensitivity to pressure ratio, TIT, mass flow, recuperation effectiveness, etc.
- Support preliminary sizing of compressor, turbine, combustor flow splits, and recuperator
- Contribute to trade-off studies balancing efficiency, emissions, weight, cost, and manufacturability
- Assist in competitive benchmarking of commercial and emerging MGT platforms
- Develop simplified 0-D / 1-D performance tools (Python/MATLAB/Excel-based)
- Document modeling assumptions and results in structured engineering format
Eligibility
- Final-year BE/B.Tech or ME/M.Tech (2025 or 2026 pass-out) in Mechanical, Aerospace, Thermal, or related discipline
- Strong academic foundation in thermodynamics, gas turbine cycles, turbomachinery, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of gas turbine cycle fundamentals and aero-thermal analysis
- Ability to conduct structured trade studies and interpret performance trends
- Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or Excel for modeling and automation
- Strong analytical thinking and technical communication skills
Preferred Skills
- Exposure to NPSS, GasTurb, GSP, GT-Power, or similar tools
- Familiarity with gas turbine architectures for power and propulsion
- Understanding of turbomachinery performance maps and component matching
- Exposure to system-level modeling approaches
